As for the FreeBSD version, the problem has been also Qt5 and lack of time because some components are difficult to build on this operating system.Īs we have said, we plan on releasing OS X and FreeBSD 1.8.4 versions in September, once we complete the necessary adaptation and testing work. We have tried very hard, but right now version 1.8.4 for OS X is not production-stable, so we won't release it. In the case of OS X, a number of bugs in the current versions of the Qt5 platform have made impossible to complete the necessary adaptation of our code. Unfortunately, building working 1.8.4 versions for OS X and FreeBSD has been impossible for this release.
We encourage you to update your installations as soon as possible. Version 1.8.4 is a big step toward a revamped PixInsight platform, which will be released next Fall with new image processing tools, new software development tools, and important improvements to the graphical interface. This is potentially alarming for me.Įdit: One more question - does the old pixinsight-license file get removed automatically once you upgrade to 1.8.6, if not, I presume you should remove it manually then, for security reasons? Will future upgrades to PixInsight drop support for the older pre MacOS versions of OS X (for example, my current El Capitan install, which is as up to date as I can possibly go because of Apple's seedy behaviour)? If they will, then my current Mac is pretty much potentially bricked from future PixInsight updates (new features and security issue fixes etc). I am unwilling to hack my firmware UEFI rom to address this issue (it's complex, and can make my computer more prone to security related issues, and/or make it more unstable).
One final question - my Mac is an older MacBook Pro mid 2010 (13" unit) - I am unable to upgrade to MacOS due to firmware blocking by Apple Computers (nice One Apple, NOT). I presume the new licence key version will not work with the older version of PixInsight on my system, so I must first upgrade to v1.8.6 before applying the new licence.ĭoes the new licence request get trigged whilst upgrading or post upgrade to 1.8.6?

Why are there no updates available when I run the update scripts now?ĭo I have to manually remove my current install of PixInsight and download the 1.8.5 version and then run updates to get the 1.8.6 update? So, why hasn't the software updated to I presume v1.8.5? (I'm not sure if that was the last update option or not, so correct me if I am wrong)? I am an infrequent user of the application btw. I last updated it perhaps Six weeks ago without issue and it was fully up to date, at least according to the update scripts. I just launched PixInsight (Mac version) and went to resources => updates => check for updates and it comes back with no updates available. Firstly - a big thank you to Juan for the updates!
